Deadwood & Limb Removal on a Birch Tree in Downtown Traverse City
Trees in residential areas often grow in tight spaces, where removing even a single branch can require careful planning. That was the case with this birch tree in downtown Traverse City, where several branches needed to be removed, including a large limb growing directly over the homeowner’s garden.
Removing Hazardous Deadwood and Overgrown Limbs
As part of the project, we removed deadwood and selected limbs that were no longer desirable for the tree or the surrounding property. Dead branches can become a safety concern as they deteriorate and eventually fall, while larger limbs can create additional challenges when they extend over gardens, landscaping, structures, or other areas that need to be protected.
The largest limb on this tree extended over the client’s garden, leaving little room for a conventional ground drop. Simply cutting the limb and allowing it to fall could have damaged the garden below.
Specialized Rigging for Controlled Removal
To safely remove the large limb, we used specialized tree rigging techniques to control its movement as it was cut. The limb was carefully secured and lowered in a controlled manner rather than allowing it to fall freely.
This type of rigging is particularly useful when working in confined residential areas or around valuable landscaping. By controlling the movement of the wood, we were able to safely bring the limb down while minimizing the risk of damage to the garden and surrounding property.
Protecting the Tree and Property
The remaining branches were selectively pruned to improve the tree’s overall structure while maintaining its natural appearance. All resulting branches and debris were removed from the property, leaving the garden and surrounding area clean when the work was complete.
Projects like this are a good example of why tree pruning isn’t simply about cutting branches. The location of the tree, the size and position of individual limbs, and what is underneath them all play an important role in determining how the work should be performed.
If you have dead branches or large limbs growing over gardens, landscaping, buildings, or other areas of concern, professional pruning and rigging can provide a safer and more controlled solution.
